Contacting Us
You can reach us at (847) 860-7319. Our address is 1751 Lake Cook Rd, Deerfield, IL 60015, which puts us close to the houses we actually work on - most of this area was built between 1938 and 2009, with the bulk of it going up in the 1960s and 70s across the 53 named subdivisions that make up this part of the North Shore. That matters because a door installed in 1968 doesn't use the same hardware as one installed in 2005, and we need to know which one we're walking up to before we load the truck.
We also cover the towns within a short drive of Deerfield - Bannockburn and Riverwoods are about two miles out, Highwood is three, Lincolnshire is four, and we go as far as Glencoe, Northfield, and Mettawa when a call comes in from those directions. If you're outside that stretch, ask when you call; we'd rather tell you straight than waste your afternoon.
Winters here sit in the cold-moderate band, which is part of why so many service calls come in on the coldest mornings of the year. Call or stop by - we don't do online scheduling, just the phone number above.
What We Are Called Out For
The most common call we get is a broken torsion spring on a door that's probably original to a house built sometime in that 1960s-70s wave - the spring has usually done its job for decades and finally gave out, often on a cold morning when the steel is stiffest and the extra load catches it. Right behind that is opener failure: older chain-drive units that have outlived their gears, or a circuit board that's finally quit after years in an unheated garage.
We also see a lot of track and roller wear tied to the same housing stock - bent tracks from a car bumping the door, worn rollers that have been running since the house was built, and cables that fray after enough winters of hard use. Panel damage comes up often enough too, usually from weather or an accident rather than age.
Given the income and household numbers in this area - median household income over $125,000 and a high rate of owner-occupied houses - we get a fair number of calls for full door and opener replacement rather than patchwork repair, especially once a homeowner decides a 1970s door isn't worth nursing along anymore. We'll tell you honestly which category your door falls into before we start any work.
What We Do Not Take On
We don't do new construction installs where the opening itself hasn't been framed yet
That's carpentry and framing work, not garage door work, and we'd rather send you to someone set up for it than pretend otherwise. We also don't stock every obsolete part for doors from the earliest end of the 1938-2009 build range; if your door is old enough that the manufacturer no longer makes the track hardware, we'll tell you that up front instead of ordering a part that may take weeks to show up.
We don't do commercial overhead doors
Our work is residential, which fits the owner-occupied housing that makes up most of the area we drive. And if a door has enough structural damage that replacement costs less than repair over time, we'll say so rather than run up a repair bill on a door that's on its way out anyway. That's not us trying to upsell you; it's just the math on an old door with multiple failing parts at once.
